  • All players are expected to attend all national training sessions pre- and post-final national team selections
  • Players not resident in Scotland are to discuss their attendance at training ahead of time. Please note there will be a strong expectation of attendance, and we will address each player’s case individually
  • Players must sign and agree to terms of the 2010/11 national squad player agreement at the first opportunity
  • Players need to be at zero financial balance with the NSMC or have previously agreed an arrangement for their outstanding balance.

Scotland bring home GOLD!!

Scotland's Mens Open team are now the Champions of Europe! After defeating all comers in the pool stages, including England & Wales they beat France 10 - 1 in their semi and Wales 8 - 3 in the final. Well done to all members of the team and in particular the Edinburgh players.

Elsewhere in the squad the Womens Open finished 3rd and the Mixed Open 10th. This tournament provided some fantastic building blocks for next year's World Cup. The Mens team also plan to attend the State Cup this December in Australia in their preparations.

Viva Espana

Scottish invitational side the Bareback Riders competed in the 2 annual Valencia touch tournament this weekend. There were 16 teams involved and after finishing 3rd last year the Bareback Riders were gunning for the top spot. The team started in 2003 and have adopted a Barbarians style ethos and although Edinburgh based they regularly invite players from other European nations, on this occasion the side comprised of 4 Scottish players (Eddie Sanjuan, Robbie McKenzie, Gary Reynolds (all Edinburgh)& Larry Irwin (Stirling)), 3 English and 2 Welsh. They are the only European club to have this selection process and although they cannot train together they have consistently delivered results, last year finishing amongst the top 8 European clubs.

Galaxy Shines in Aberdeen

Feb 20th saw the first one day tournament of the Scottish touch season held in the new Aberdeen Sports Village; a new multi purpose sports venue. 8 teams competed in the event, five local clubs and three travelling teams; Glasgow Lions, Wallace Monumentals (from Stirling) and Galaxy Scotland (from Edinburgh). The eventual winners were Galaxy Scotland, captained by Eddie Sanjuan. Galaxy had a strong line up boasting a number of current Scotland representative players, including Gary Reynolds & Robbie McKenzie, the Scotland Men’s and Women’s coaches respectively.

New Beginnings

The 2010 season is just around the corner and there is already a buzz about the place. The Touch Scotland leagues are running for 12 weeks, have secured a sponsor and are taking entries for individuals. As well as this the Edinburgh Touch Superleague has expanded to include a mixed intermediate division and is running a 20 week league, not to mention it now has Cardiff and Jersey franchises A 20 week league is a huge step for touch in Edinburgh extending the period of play and creating a real league atmosphere rather than a short social tournament.
